Arts and letters
The main objectives of this directive are:
- The production of contemporary
quality cultural work in Cyprus, its recording, and its promotion
abroad. (By “cultural work” we mean arts, literature, theatre, music,
architecture, cinema, dance etc.);
- The development of a cultural
initiative from Cyprus to Europe and to the world in general, through
projects pertaining to the arts, culture and civilization;
- The development of philosophy and the
promotion of interaction between philosophy and society;
- The exchange of works and
experiences pertaining to the arts, culture and civilization with
other countries and with a dual objective: the grafting of cultural
creativity in Cyprus itself, and the placement of Cyprus on the
international cultural chessboard;
- The organizing of conferences,
symposia or workshops in matters such as cultural development,
cultural harmonization with the European Union and contemporary
cultural planning;
- The setting-up of institutional
cultural happenings at a local administration level and the
intercession for the re-establishment of the town square as a venue
for communal creativity, communication and recreation, through the
establishment of quality creative events at the neighborhood level.
Modern
creation
The establishment of creativity, through an experimental approach
focused on that which is “new” and through the new aesthetics currently
taking shape. Fully respectful of the works of earlier creators, one
will attempt the repositioning and “discovery” of new creative tools
through the use of polymorphic arts and with the ultimate objective
being the participation of society in the overall cultural product.
Cultural
technology
New technologies have today changed the way in which we communicate and
create. At the same time, they have also changed the processes governing
cultural policy and civilisational experience. The Foundation, as a
member of various international organizations, intercedes in a direct
manner with the aim of creating more favorable conditions as regards
Cyprus’ cultural significance abroad. The purpose of the Foundation is
to create those conditions necessary for the correct use of technology
at a cultural infrastructure, expression and creativity level.
Cultural
heritage
The preservation and showcasing of one’s cultural heritage constitutes
one of the priorities of the EU. Cyprus possesses a rich heritage, which
however is not consolidated into a form which one can easily appreciate.
The Foundation looks forward to:
- providing consultative services
vis-à-vis cultural heritage management, through “smart” systems,
compatible with similar systems being used abroad;
- archiving and consolidating
cultural data, with the aim of providing Cyprus with a consolidated
cultural information tool, freely accessible to all users.
- creating the proper conditions,
prerequisites and healthy institutions for ensuring the continuity
of our cultural tradition.
- recording the cultural heritage for
purposes of reference and archiving.
Environment
The Foundation does not see the environment as falling into a different
category from culture, but rather, or probably, as a more
anthropocentric approach to social development. Through a cultural
environmental development, nature as a city or, even more, society as a
micro-city are tied in with the past, arming themselves and looking
towards the future through the adoption of higher quality criteria. The
main objectives of this directive are:
- The organizing of scientific
seminars and lectures on the environment in correlation with
contemporary urban solutions, the protection of humankind’s health
and creativity, as well as the development of aesthetic criteria;
- The organizing of symposia aimed
at the harmonization of Cyprus with the European Union as regards
one of the island’s weakest points, the environment;
- The familiarization of the public
with matters touching upon electromagnetic pollution as well as
geo-pathogenic zones (given that the Foundation houses an
electromagnetic radiation research laboratory);
European Union
The main objectives of this directive are:
- The consideration of cultural
opportunities, both as regards financial support and vis-à-vis
the cultural infrastructure present in Cyprus in relation to the
European Union;
- The establishment of serious
cultural networks in Europe and the greatest possible
participation of Cyprus in European cultural programmes;
- The contribution to Cyprus’
organized presence in matters concerning the preservation of
one’s cultural heritage and the provision of consultative
services to government and private cultural agencies.
Research
– Sciences
Research and the sciences constitute an inalienable part of modern
civilization. By way of this approach, the ARTos Foundation strives to
reconstitute the wholeness of civilization, with humankind as the
central axis. Through its collaborations and the technical know-how
developed, the Foundation is active in the following fields of research:
- Information science and
technology
- Mechanics
- Physics
- Genetics
- Medicine
Modern civilization is directly influenced
by the developments in the aforementioned fields of science.
Consequently, the Foundation not only monitors and keeps informed on
these, but also involves itself directly in the relevant scientific
research through the appropriate scientific staff and through
collaborations with various other “pedigree” research centers. It also
functions as a kind of incubator through which ideas, research, and even
new products can be developed and realized.
